Shinsegae Food (KRX: 031440) is a South Korean food manufacturing/distribution, bakery, and restaurant/franchise catering company. It launched the plant-based meat brand Better Meat, but in 2025 it moved to exit the segment: Better Foods (U.S. subsidiary Better Foods Inc., created to expand abroad) was ended and liquidated in 2025, and Better Meat’s domestic product operation was set to stop once inventory sold out; only the “YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT” brand remained, with reduced SKUs. Better Meat’s tech emphasis included R&D for plant-based meat plus related substitutes, and use in partner menu items such as No Brand Burger’s “Better Burger.” Shinsegae Food was founded in 1979 and is headquartered in Seoul (office in Seongdong-gu).
