CJ CheilJedang (CJ Biomaterials, part of CJ BIO) produces fermentation-derived ingredients (notably feed amino acids and nucleotides) and commercial-scale PHA biopolymers for biodegradable packaging and other applications, using its PHACT™ technology (amorphous and semi-crystalline PHA). It was founded in 1953; headquarters are in Seoul, Korea (CJ CheilJedang Center, 330 Dongho-ro, Jung-gu). CJ BIOfers “about 700+ KT” fermentation capacity worldwide across 13 manufacturing sites. 2024 bio results cited include 4.21T won sales and 337.6B won operating profit; CJ reported 2024 EBITDA around 700B won for the bio business (scale for the bio unit). Latest 2025-2026 developments: CJ CheilJedang scrapped a planned green bio sale in 2025, opting to keep and expand the bio unit, and CJ Biomaterials is still active in PHA commercialization, including 2025 SDGs recognition and 2026 investment/testing expansion at its Woburn, Massachusetts facility.
